My New Pet
I have always wanted to own a pet snake. Since I was little, I like to watch the snakes every time when visiting a pet store. They are such beautiful and often misunderstood animals, which makes me even more attracted to them.
After years of researching and studying about pet snakes, I decided to get one of my own! Although I own quite many pets already (a dog, a bunny and a couple of fish), but it will not hurt to get another one, right? I narrowed down my options of the kinds of pet snakes I would like to keep into the two most easy species: ball pythons and corn snakes. And after multiple considerations, I made up my mind on a corn snake.
So, this is Rue, my baby corn snake! Since it’s still too young to figure out what gender it is, I do not know whether it’s a boy or a girl. However, I get a feeling that she’s a pretty little girl, so I got her a cute name “Rue”. She is very tame and absolutely harmless, corn snakes are popular pets because they are easily kept domesticated. When I held her on my hands for the first time, she was so nervous that she pooped on my hand. (This reaction is absolutely normal) She is about two months old, and eats frozen just-born mice for food once a week.
An interesting thing I have found out about corn snakes is that when they feel threatened, they would shake the tip of their tail extremely fast to make rattle sounds. The reason for this action is to pretend as a rattle snake (poisonous), and to fool or scare off other animals. And it is so adorable for them to act tough while they are actually totally harmless.
However, while pet snakes seem like great pets that do not need much care and attention, they could live for more than a decade or even two. So keeping one would be a long time responsibility, their size could also grow multiple times longer than in the beginning. Many people bought snakes as pets merely because they are cool, and didn’t bother do any researches before they bought them. This caused a lot of them to be abandoned or sold after they grow up and became a burden. So it is important to think twice before taking responsibility of an animal’s life.
Although I am really scared of snakes (but in fact I am a person born in the snake year!), it is still very interesting to see some fun facts about them.😆Rue might be the first snake that I know something about.🤣 Moreover, I especially like the last part of your journal, it is really important for those who want to own a pet to think twice before they truly adopt a pet.💫
Wow! It seems so cool to keep a snake as a pet! Normally, a snake is a species that is dangerous and harmful in my imagination; however, your pet snake looks really cute and totally change my thoughts toward snakes!😍 It must be healing after a tiring day when staying with adorable Due. 😊
OMG! Your new pet is so cool! I also want to experience letting a snake crawl on my hand. Does she only eat once a week? and could she play with your bunny and dog?😆 or they don't get along with each other?😮
